Tara Mountain, 2014-2018.

Tucked at the far western border with Bosnia, Tara is one of the most magnificent mountains of Serbia. No simple words can describe it, neither extremely high nor prominent Tara is mysterious and covert. One can count its canyons, cliffs, dark forests, graceful plains, animal and plant species but still miss the real magic of this place. There is something in the overall ambient here that makes it special, the air, the sky, altogether. Whomever you ask Tara is always a she, although hardly anybody can explain it.

At 1453m Gavran is among the highest peaks of Tara, but is neither prominent nor much special at first glance. As the rugged mountains of Montenegro and Bosnia are not far from here, on clear days the view will not disappoint. However the most rewarding is a moonless night on Gavran under clear skies, the stars display on pitch black sky is something you'll rarely have a chance to see elsewhere.

This peculiar rocky formation is the central point of a legend of the lost city on Tara. One part of the legend is undeniably true - there is only one narrow and delicate path to climb this peak, everything else are almost vertical cliffs. The rest of the story tells about a fortified city on top of it, impossible to conquer. The city supposedly felt after a secret cave passage was discovered, enabling the attackers to storm the city from inside during the night. Today some intriguing traces can be found on it, archaeological excavations are being undertaken to examine these remains (estimated to originate from Middle Ages, but possibly much older).

Sokolarica is an exposed cliff overlooking the canyon of river Rača. This canyon is short, but quite magnificent in this part. It is especially nice to visit in autumn due to rich colors.
