Italy: Venezia
A short visit to this famous city in May 2010. I was amazed how big this place actually is, you really need some good physical stamina to see all of it. The central island which forms the heart of the city is literally a huge labyrinth of narrow streets and passages, it is not at all recommended to wander off without a good map. The architectural style of the buildings might be called Mediterranean-Italian (as expected), but it also has a stunning diversity of shapes and details taken from cultures all over and outside of Europe. Definitely worth seeing.
The only drawback (depending on whom you ask and what you like) might be that there are only a few true Venetian residents. During the day almost all the people that you see are tourists, and everything in the city seems to be dedicated only to them - hundreds of restaurants and souvenir shops. However, most of the ambiance is still nicely preserved in an old-fashioned style. Photographs are by Dušan Golubić (Golub), Dušan Vučković (Duca) and me.
