Gothic Church in Jaša Tomić Village

Long before you arrive at the small village of Jaša Tomić, close to the Serbian-Romanian border, you can spot the monumental tower of this church. It is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and was built in 1911. in the elegant Neo-Gothic style. Among other rich exterior architectural elements, it features hand painted glass windows (vitrages) which were crafted by artists from Budapest during 1912. Inside the church, besides the rich decoration, one can find the paintings of Vasa Pomorišac from 1906. and Johannes Mertz from 1799. The church is still in occasional use today, but receives very few visitors. The lack of maintenance has taken its toll on its present state, at least the roof should be repaired to prevent moisture from inflicting further damage on the church interior.
