Jastrebac Mountain, April 2007.

Piles of snow still lie scattered on higher slopes of the mountain, while in valleys below it already feels like summer.

Jastrebac is a prominent mountain of central Serbia, with elongated exposed ridge and two highest peaks called Velika Đulica (1492 meters) and Pogled (1482 meters). In terms of geology the mountain is very old, dating perhaps from Hercynian orogenesis, and represents a typical horst generated by fault uplifting. Rock base is metamorphic, mostly combinations of green schists over the old gneiss layer beneath. On the northwest side of the mountain is a 4.5km wide and almost circular ring structure that was found to be a dome of the old extinct volcano, although it highly resembles a meteor impact crater by its shape. The mountain is covered with dense forest, and is a sanctuary to large number of bird species (the name Jastrebac can be translated into English as "Hawk Mountain").

Pogled ("The View" in English) is a 1482 meter high point with panoramic view towards the Toplica valley in southern Serbia. Spring hasn't reached the higher and colder areas of the mountain, so fresh grown green leaves can only be seen in the valley below.

A similar panorama, this time from a cliff closer to the transmitting station that has been damaged in NATO bombing of 1999.

Tri Sestrice (The Three Sisters) are three small hills on a ridge close to Pogled peak. They are approximately 1450m high and one of these has an exposed cliff with nice view of the main mountain ridge (Pogled peak, Mala Djulica and Velika Djulica). To the right and across a 700 meter deep valley is the Dragon's peak, a place shrouded in myths and old legends.

King's Water is a spring below the Pogled peak. A small mountain house has been built here recently.
